Shannon Blakey, a graduate student in Clinical Psychology, received the 2019 American Psychological Association Division 18’s Outstanding Veteran Affairs (VA) Trainee Award.
APA Division 18 Psychologists in Public Service responds to the needs of the public in areas such as psychological practice, research, training, and policy formation. The division comprises six sections representing a variety of settings: Community and State Hospital, Criminal Justice, Police and Public Safety, Psychologists in Indian Country, Serious Mental Illness-Severe Emotional Disturbance and Veterans Affairs. The division and its sections provide a forum for its members to discuss common professional interests, to advocate for the mental health needs of the public, and to promote the use of evaluation and research in public research programs.
The Outstanding Trainee Award is given to a student at any stage of psychology education with accomplishments during VA training that far exceed expectations for even exceptional trainees. Shannon received the Outstanding VA Trainee Award for her 2018-2019 Internship at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center at Puget Sound, Seattle. Shannon was recognized as the top psychology trainee in the entire VA systems. Congratulations, Shannon!
